Anthony Summerwill

Anthony Summerwill is one of the UK’s leading Restorative Dentists with over 30 years experience working within a specialist environment. He is a Fellow of the International Team for Implantology and was a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry and Honorary Senior Lecturer at The University of Birmingham until 2015. Over the past 10 years, Anthony has focused his activities on providing a referral based specialist service in Birmingham. He is actively involved in post-graduate education and has lectured extensively both nationally and internationally in the field of implant dentistry.

Anthony graduated from Cardiff Dental School in 1991. Following a period of specialist training he was appointed as a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at Birmingham Dental Hospital in 2001. For 14 years he served as the lead for the restorative management of adult cleft lip and palate patients in the West Midlands and his practice also focused on the rehabilitation of younger patients with missing teeth (hypodontia).

In 2008, Anthony became the founding partner of The Westbourne Centre, one of the UK’s largest polyclinics. His private dental practice encompasses all of the facets of restorative dentistry but is more focussed on dental implant based treatment and the management of complex / failing dentitions. Over the years he has developed a reputation for clinical excellence in the field of restorative dentistry.

Over the past 20 years Anthony has been very involved with postgraduate dental education. As part of his consultant role he acted as the Training Program Director for Restorative Dentistry in the West Midlands Deanery training future hospital consultants and postgraduate specialists. He has been a member of the executive committee of the International Academy of Oral and Facial Rehabilitation and is a Fellow of the International Team for Implantology. He has also been a member of the SORG (Strasbourg Osteosynthesis Research Group - preprosthetic section) which provides education for international Oral and Maxillofacial residents in the field of dental implants.

Anthony has been an invited keynote speaker at both national and international scientific meetings and conferences primary in the field of implant dentistry. He is on the editorial board of the International Journal of Implant Dentistry.
